Modern medicine has produced extraordinary expertise across every speciality. Yet complex patients continue to challenge even the most experienced clinicians because their journey unfolds over time, across multiple consultations, investigations, treatments and referrals.

Pain Perspectives was created to understand that journey differently.

Through complex patient cases, six clinicians from different specialities come together for three mornings of moderated discussion. Rather than focusing on a single consultation or one point in the patient’s journey, the forum explores how that journey evolves over time and how each clinical encounter influences the next.

There are no lectures.

No podium.

Time to understand before recommending treatment.

Instead, participants have an increasingly rare opportunity in modern clinical practice: protected time to think, explore, and examine complex patients alongside colleagues whose expertise complements their own clinical perspective.

Guided by an experienced faculty moderator, each discussion examines how history, investigations, previous interventions and clinical decisions shape the patient’s journey over time. The discussion is centred on understanding how each clinical encounter shapes patient care.

Beyond the discussion table, Buenos Aires provides the ideal setting for reflection and conversation. Shared meals, informal discussions and time spent exploring the city allow professional relationships to develop naturally, creating a community that often extends well beyond the forum itself.

Participants return to practice with a deeper appreciation for how today’s clinical decisions influence the patient’s journey tomorrow. They return with a broader understanding of where their own consultation fits within that journey—and with renewed insight into the complex patients who continue to challenge us.

Why an Interdisciplinary Forum?

Persistent facial pain and headache are among the most complex conditions encountered in clinical practice.

Patients often move through multiple consultations, investigations, treatments, and referrals before a diagnosis is established or meaningful improvement is achieved. Neurologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, pain physicians, family physicians, emergency physicians, radiologists, dentists, and other specialists may each become involved at different stages of the patient’s journey.

Pain Perspectives was created because these clinical encounters are usually experienced one at a time.

By bringing different clinical perspectives into the same discussion, participants explore the diagnosis and management of complex facial pain while examining how clinical decisions, investigations, referrals, and evolving presentations influence one another over time.

The result is a richer understanding of the patient’s journey through complex facial pain and the role each clinical encounter plays in shaping that journey.

Each discussion table is intentionally limited to six clinicians.

This small format encourages open discussion, thoughtful debate, and meaningful participation by every clinician. As participants examine the same patient journey together, each clinician contributes the expertise of their own discipline while gaining insight into how different clinical encounters shape the patient’s journey over time.

The programme combines moderated, case-based discussion with opportunities for professional networking and cultural experiences in Buenos Aires. Participants are expected to contribute actively throughout the forum. Each discussion is moderated by an experienced faculty moderator.

The Venue – The Palacio Duhau

The private library at Palacio Duhau was selected to encourage conversation rather than presentation, ensuring every participant has an equal voice.

Why Buenos Aires Matters

The programme balances moderated clinical discussion with time to experience one of South America’s great cultural cities.

Two optional social programmes have been incorporated into the forum to introduce participants to two defining elements of Argentine culture: the asado and the tango.

Afternoons are intentionally unscheduled, giving participants the flexibility to explore Buenos Aires, continue professional discussions, or spend time with accompanying persons.

Registration Fee: USD $1,495
The registration fee includes:

• One-year NEI Master Series Membership, including 18 CME credits

• Refreshment breaks during programme hours

Accommodation, airfare, airport transfers, and other meals are not included.

FAQ

What is the educational approach?
Pain Perspectives is built around moderated, case-based discussion rather than lectures. The forum is designed for experienced clinicians and is grounded in clinical reasoning, interdisciplinary discussion, and thoughtful examination of the complex patient journey. Category 1 CME credits – application in progress.

How much preparation is required?
Very little. Clinicians are encouraged to review any cases provided in advance, but extensive preparation is not expected. The value of the forum comes from discussion, clinical experience, and the exchange of perspectives.

What happens each morning?
Each morning begins with one or more clinical cases moderated by the faculty moderator. Participants explore diagnosis, clinical reasoning, and the different perspectives each speciality brings to the same patient. The discussion follows the patient’s journey over time, allowing participants to examine how different clinical encounters influence one another.

Can I bring my own patient case?
Yes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own patient cases. Selected participant cases may be incorporated into the forum discussions, allowing clinicians from different specialities to examine the same patient journey through multiple clinical perspectives.

Is there time to continue the discussions?
Yes. The programme is intentionally designed with free time outside the morning discussions. Participants may continue professional conversations, explore Buenos Aires independently, or spend time with accompanying persons.

Can my accompanying person attend the social programme?
Yes. Accompanying persons are welcome. While participants attend the morning discussions, accompanying persons may explore Buenos Aires independently, participate in optional activities or enjoy time at their own pace. They are welcome to join the forum’s social programme, providing opportunities for everyone to come together.

Can the registration fee be paid by my institution or hospital?
Yes. Many participants use institutional, departmental, hospital, or continuing education funding where available. An itemised invoice can be provided upon request.

Do I arrange my own travel?
Yes. Participants arrange their own flights and accommodation. Recommended hotels are available, and the venue is centrally located in Recoleta.
